Definition & Structure
An oil-immersed transformer is a common power equipment that performs critical tasks such as voltage conversion and power distribution in electrical grids. It is widely used in urban/rural power grid upgrades, industrial/mining applications, combined transformers, and prefabricated substations.
Key components include:
1.Core: Laminated from high-permeability silicon steel sheets to form a closed magnetic circuit.
2.Windings: Made of copper or aluminum wire, serving as conductive loops wound around the core.
3.Tank: Houses insulating oil and supports other components.
4.Conservator (Oil Expension Tank): Compensates for oil volume changes.
5.Breather: Prevents moisture ingress.
6.Pressure Relief Device (Explosion Vent): Releases excessive internal pressure.
7.Radiators: Enhance heat dissipation.
8.Bushings: Provide external insulation for terminals.
9.Tap Changer: Adjusts voltage ratio.
10.Buchholz Relay: Detects internal faults.
11.Temperature Gauge & Oil Purifier: Monitor and maintain oil quality.
12.Oil :Serves as the primary insulation and cooling medium.
Performance Features
1.High Efficiency & Energy Savings:
Laminated core with minimal air gaps reduces losses and noise.
Near-circular core cross-section improves three-phase balance and lowers harmonic distortion.
2.Enhanced Reliability:
Oil penetrates silicon steel layers, damping noise.
Sealed construction protects insulation from environmental factors.
3.Strong Load Adaptability:
Adjusts input/output currents to meet varying load demands.
Cooling Methods
1.Oil-Natural Air-Natural (ONAN): Relies on natural oil convection.
2.Oil-Natural Air-Forced (ONAF): Adds fans to cool tank and pipes.
3.Oil-Forced Air-Forced (OFAF): Uses pumps to circulate oil through external coolers.
Insulation Structure
1.Internal Insulation:(1)Main Insulation: Oil-paper barriers isolate windings from grounded parts/other windings.
(2)Longitudinal Insulation: Separates sections within the same winding.
2.External Insulation: Bushings insulate terminals from ground/each other.

Operational Parameters
1.Temperature Limits:
Top oil temperature ≤ 90°C (85°C recommended for longevity).
Alarm triggers at 80°C.
2.Overload Capacity:
Permits 1.1-1.2× rated current during emergencies.
Monitor load/temperature post-alarm; reduce load if necessary.
Advantages.
Oil-immersed transformers are suitable for various power grid scenarios, featuring excellent structure and performance. They efficiently convert and distribute electrical energy, ensuring stable and secure power supply.
